Steps for a New Student to Enroll

Congratulations on your admission to Ivy Tech!! With this action, you’ve taken the first crucial step toward your future. After you’ve submitted your application and been accepted, there are a few more steps you must complete before you can begin the registration process.

Classes begin every eight weeks, so be sure to complete these steps as soon as possible so that you can register and have enough time to prepare for the start of classes. Here are the steps you need to take next to register for classes.

STEP 1: Create an account with MyIvy.
You received a welcome letter that looked exactly like this!

This letter contained your student identification number, also known as a C-number. Ensure that you keep them somewhere safe! Because it serves as the central repository for all of your student information, you will have access to your MyIvy account at all times.

STEP 2: Schedule an appointment with an Enrollment Specialist on your university’s campus
You have the option of meeting in person, virtually, or over the phone. As your partner throughout the registration process, this individual can assist you with answering questions, giving you a tour of the university’s facilities, and guiding you if you become lost.

STEP 3: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a critical step in the registration process and should be completed as soon as possible. Numerous students are eligible for financial aid, and they can receive up to $6,400 in funds that can be used to cover tuition and living expenses such as transportation and rent. Other grants and scholarship opportunities may become available to you as a result of your financial aid.

SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS IN STEP FOUR
Transcripts should be submitted to Ivy Tech if you are a recent high school graduate or if you have taken college courses in the last year. Not all students are required to submit transcripts, so check with your Enrollment Specialist to see if you are required to do so.

STEP 5: Completing your Knowledge Evaluation
Ivy Tech must assess your reading, writing, and math skills to ensure that the courses you enroll in are a good match for your abilities. This critical step may even enable you to graduate sooner than you anticipated!

If you have met other criteria for placement, such as a high school GPA or an SAT score, you may not be required to take the Knowledge Assessment. Inquire with your Enrollment Specialist for assistance with this step.

STEP 6: Schedule an appointment with a career counselor.

Your educational background will have a significant impact on your future career path and earning potential, there is no doubt about that. And that is why it is critical to begin working with Ivy Tech Career Coaching as soon as possible.

Your Career Coach will be there for you every step of the way, from explaining what career options are available to you to advising you on which Ivy Tech programs will get you where you want to go.

STEP 7: Schedule a meeting with your advisor.

Once you have completed the steps outlined above, you will need to meet with your academic advisor to finalize your enrollment plan. The guidance of our Advisors will be invaluable as you choose which courses to enroll in each semester. Ivy Tech wants to make sure that every student has the best possible experience, which is why we require you to meet with an advisor to develop an Academic Completion Plan before you begin classes. The time and money you save by working with an advisor to develop and, if necessary, edit your plan could be significant. Review our checklist to ensure that you are prepared for your advising appointment. When you log into your MyIvy account, you will be able to find the contact information for your advisor.

STEP 8: Sign up for a course.
Using Ivy Tech’s brand new schedule builder, you can find courses that are suitable for your schedule. By using this tool, you will be able to quickly find the courses you are looking for by searching for them by term and class type. Do you require additional assistance in deciding which courses to enroll in? As a bonus, the Ivy Tech schedule builder provides you with course dates and times, instructor information, and course descriptions, ensuring that you have all the information you need to make the best decision for your schedule!

STEP 9: Make Payments for Classes and/or Services. Create a Payment Schedule
If you do not qualify for financial aid or scholarships, you will be required to pay for your classes out of pocket. You have the option of paying in full or setting up a payment plan. Semester fees must be paid in full before the start of the semester or eight weeks.
