Google for Education
Michigan Tech has partnered up with Google, the leading email, calendaring, and collaboration service provider, to provide you your @mtu.edu address as well as other tools for collaboration.
Google Mail (Gmail).
Google is Michigan Tech’s mail provider. This system allows faculty, staff, students, alumni, potential students, adjunct faculty, and others to connect. Gmail for Education provides unlimited storage per user and powerful spam filtering. It also integrates voice/video conferencing and has a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Google hosts Gmail for Education at no cost to students, faculty, and staff. Google Mail is powered securely by the internet, so faculty and students can work from anywhere, including on the road or at home.
Support for troubleshooting and configuring a variety of email clients is available, including Thunderbird and Apple Mail. instructions on how to add an account to your mobile device are available. You can contact us for assistance. Your firstname.lastname@example.org must be used with your ISO password. You can find links to specific services such as Calendar, Contacts, and others. Google Calendar allows users to schedule meetings and share event calendars. It also makes it easy for them to stay organized, no matter how busy they are. Google Calendar can be used to overlay multiple calendars, so you can see who is available when. It also sends out invitations and manages RSVPs. Google Calendar integrates into Gmail. It is compatible with other calendar programs. You can share calendars with your entire school or just a few colleagues. You can control sharing permissions to ensure security and privacy. You can view and edit event details and add new events. You can also receive SMS calendar notifications.

Google Drive allows you to store single, up-to-date files online. It offers 5GB storage. Google Drive allows you to access your files anywhere, on any device or browser. Google Docs can be uploaded to Google Drive along with any other file type. You can share files and folders with individuals or the entire team. Online discussions allow you to share ideas and collaborate on projects. This application, like all Google Apps has Google’s powerful search capabilities that will help you find exactly what you want.

Google Docs allows you to collaborate and learn in real time. It lets users edit the same file simultaneously so that everyone has the most recent version. Google Docs allows users to be productive at work, home, school, and even from their smartphones. Google Docs can be used on any computer in the family without the need to install additional software.

Google Groups (Mailing lists)
Michigan Tech uses Google Groups for email list services.
Google’s documentation provides more information about how to use Google Groups. Google Groups are also the best way for email lists to be used with Google’s collaboration tools. A correctly configured Google Group will accept Google Calendar invites, and items shared via Google Drive intelligently.
You can view the groups you are currently a member of, manage your groups, or create new groups. Please visit the section of Google Groups. All group creations are checked for abuse and compliance to Michigan Tech’s computer usage policy.
Lists of a department, an organization, or a committee
To create a new Google Group email address list, use the Michigan Tech Create A New Google Group Form. The default status of a Google Group is private. This means that only group members can access it after creation. The Group’s web page allows you to manage group settings.
