If you are reading this, then you have likely encountered the WAN connectivity problem. It’s normal to search the internet before calling support or asking friends who are more tech-savvy than you.
This article will talk about Wide Area Network (WAN) and how it works. It will also explain why there is such an error and what you can do to fix it. You will hopefully understand the basics of how to get things working correctly after reading this article.
What is WAN?
In the network taxonomy, we have LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), and RAN (Regional Area Network). They all have different meanings depending on what area they cover. LAN is the local network. Our home network.
WAN offers a wider coverage area and a range of over half a mile. This applies to our entire campus or neighborhood. Remote Access Number (RAN) is a service offered by your Internet Service Provider.
WAN is a network made up of many networks. It is used extensively by ISPs, libraries, libraries and dormitories, as well as universities. Because it is connected to all networks, the Internet can be considered a large-area network.
What is a Wide Area Network?
You have many options to establish a WAN connection. This involves the creation of data packets and their transfer over a digital network.
Packet switching is the primary method of network communication. Data packets consist of two parts: the one containing routing information and metadata (header) and the one containing data we see (payload).
These protocols can also be used to send and receive data packets over the network. Wide Area Network uses the X.25 protocol. This is the oldest form of communication.
This protocol is used for hardware like POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). This is the Wide Area Network.
Old telephone lines allow us to have the internet, or the largest Wide Area Network (of all networks). WAN works in the same manner as our home network, but uses different protocols and covers a wider area.
Why does my WAN connection go down?
We can experience WAN connection down problems with our network for a variety of reasons. This error is not common, but can be caused by problems with the router’s ports, cables or ISP infrastructure.
- Modem port malfunction You don’t have much to do, but you might be able to test an older router, if it exists, or use another Ethernet Cable.
- Broken cables You should be aware that coaxial cables, fiber, and even twisted pairs can all be damaged, particularly if you use splitters. Problems with connection can result from splitters not being properly placed.
- ISP infrastructure If an ISP is performing maintenance or something happens in one the data centers, temporarily your WAN connection may be affected.
- Outlet issue – The outlet on the phone line (or the one that is dedicated to the coax cable) has something stuck in the wires. It could be a damaged outlet, which can cause the same problem as a broken wire.
Our WAN connection drops out of service is usually not due to an issue in the ISP’s infrastructure or network. This is often caused by a problem with the ISP’s infrastructure or network. This problem is beyond our control.
How can I fix a downed WAN link?
As the problem is often caused by external factors, there isn’t much you can do. There are still steps you can take to fix the problem. If none of these steps are successful, you can call your ISP to request a technician to come to your house.
Restart your Router
Check if the WAN port has been working by restarting the router. If you see a red LED it means that something is wrong. These steps will allow you to power-cycle devices within the network.
All devices connected to the network should be turned off, including your laptop or PC. Wait at least one minute after you have completed this step before turning on any devices. These devices should then be turned on in this order: modem, router, PC.
If you notice something not working properly in your network, it’s always a good idea to have an additional layer of security. It’s worth performing an antivirus scan to ensure your system is not infected.
It could be your modem. To find out if your ISP can offer a better solution, contact them. Many subscribers report that changing their modem solved the problem.
Troubleshoot Network Adapter
It’s always a good idea for the auto-troubleshooter be used to your advantage. Access the Start MenuClick Here Settings and click Network & Internet. Select Choose.
A window with network accessories will open. Click on the network you want to use and click on the right-click icon. Select Diagnose and the troubleshooter’s will begin looking for problems. If you follow the prompts, it might solve your problem.
Get a Technician
You should contact your ISP if you suspect the problem may be caused by damaged cables. They will arrange for a technician at your location. If the problem is related to damaged cables or bugs, contacting a technician will likely resolve it.
We are not experiencing a WAN connection error due to problems within our network. It is most likely caused by external factors and reasons.
The best option is to hire a technician to fix the problem right away. Realize that there’s not much we can do, and it’s better to let the pros handle this.
