The Xfinity xFi Wireless Gateway and xFi Fiber Gateway might be blinking. The newer Xfinity routers come with a unified LED indicator light so we won’t concentrate on these in this article.
However, the Xfinity Wi-Fi blinking light is something you need to understand. Also, what steps you need in order to fix it.
The 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi lights blink when there’s data being transmitted. If the Xfinity wifi light is blinking and it is obvious that your home network has not been functioning properly, you need to intervene.
How to Fix the Xfinity WiFi Light That Is Blinking
It doesn’t matter what is the reason for the Xfinity WiFi light blinking, what matters is that it can be fixed. These are some simple fixes that will make your home network functional again.
Your area is affected by a service outage
Your area’s service outage could be the reason why your Xfinity WiFi lights are blinking. There are many ways to confirm that the problem is caused by a service outage in your area.
Sign in to your Xfinity account, visit the Status Center, and view the Comcast Outage Map. Another option is to download the Xfinity app for your smartphone and sign in to your account.
If there is an outage, you will receive an alert message. You can also visit Downdetector or similar sites to check if any Comcast customers have complained.
If they confirm that the outage is the cause, you’ll have to wait for them to fix it. If the outage is not resolved, you can opt to be notified via text message.
Check out the Splitter and The Cables
Defective splitters, loose or damaged cables, and other factors can all contribute to this problem. Having that in mind, you should perform a detailed inspection of all the cables going into the router and the modem, and don’t forget to check the other end of each cable.
You can try another splitter to see if it helps. Or you can connect directly to the router. If the issue persists after doing everything, try the following.
Restart your Xfinity Gateway
This is the first step in troubleshooting your network. It doesn’t require any technical skills, and it is efficient in most cases. To keep things short – turn off the Xfinity gateway. Reconnect it to the power source. Wait 2-5 minutes. It should be connected again to the power source.
Turn on your gateway and wait until the LED lights stabilize. The Xfinity WiFi light should no longer blink after this. If it’s still blinking then continue with the next solution.
Reset The Xfinity Router Back To Factory Defaults
Be aware that you will lose all of your custom settings. The network will need to be re-set up. This is why we don’t recommend it. This is what you need to know.
Here’s what you should do to restore the factory settings to the default Xfinity router.
Locate the reset button on the back panel of your Xfinity WiFi router. Use a pointed object, such as a paperclip or pen, to press the Reset button. It is hidden in the pinhole. It will turn the router on after a half-minute if you keep it pressed down.
When the router is down, it will restart and it will return to its factory settings. You’ll need to activate the router again, and change the wireless password and name.
However, if this doesn’t fix the issue we have to ask ourselves the following.
Is your Xfinity WiFi Gateway malfunctioning?
While the gateways Xfinity rents have high quality components, there are times when your device is not working properly. This causes the Xfinity wifi light to blink and prevents it from establishing a good connection.
If you suspect your router is malfunctioning and you are experiencing these issues, you should contact Xfinity. Once you do that, explain what’s going on and ask for help.
They can try to fix the issue for you or if they can’t resolve the problem remotely, they can send a tech guy to come and fix it for you. You can expect a replacement if the technician determines that the router is the cause. The new router should allow your home network to function again, hopefully.
